What I Wore: A Bit of Cooler Weather

Ok, so the rest of the week was cooler (per the post title), but not so much Monday…

I worked up to a heavy single deadlift and got mega frustrated.  I’m so weak at deadlifts it’s not even funny.  Literally, my back squat max and deadlift max are within 5 pounds of each other.  I imagine two things are holding me back: 1) the finer points of my technique, and 2) weakness in my lats/upper back that makes it difficult for me to really lock in my scaps/upper back in the early part of the pull.  I haven’t PRed my deadlift in a YEAR!  Definitely something on the list to work on.

Magic butt pants!  Who doesn’t love magic butt pants?

I dutifully worked through my pull-up/ring dip EMOM before the WOD.  Now that August is nearing its end, I’m starting to think through what challenge I’d like to issue myself for September.  I have a few ideas, but am not sure what I’ll go with just yet.

For my usual WOD, I did a 20 min partner AMRAP with wall balls, box jumps, and rowing for calories.  Ohhhhhh my quads.

New color combo: LOVE.  The rich purple and the rich green together make a combo that I find vibrant and understated at the same time.  The colors aren’t brights, but they’re definitely rich and colorful.

This WOD was a “pyramid” of over the bar burpees, running, power snatches, running, power snatches, running, and over the bar burpees.  My coach showed us a faster way to do the OTB burpees so I went waaaay too fast in the first couple minutes and gassed myself out too early.  It made for a very long 22 minutes.

And yes, in case you didn’t notice, I *did* wear the same headband 3 days in a row.  It’s a really useful headband–matches basically everything.

Detagged my inkys and took them out for a spin!  My pattern placement features that dreaded yellow splotch both in the front crotch and back center butt but 1) I don’t think it’s that noticeable unless you’re, like, very intently staring at my crotch/butt, 2) it’s definitely not noticeable if you are more than 4 feet away, and 3) I don’t think anyone would *actually* think it’s a pee stain.  So, I’m not gonna get my proverbial panties in a bunch over it.  I love them anyway and they will get a lot of wear.

ALSO, omg, my keep it up jacket with these speeds?  Love love love.

My gym is starting a new monthly Friday “throwdown”: it’s an informal, 1-WOD “competition”.  Everybody pitches in a small entry fee and the winner gets a nice payoff (depending on how many people come).  To make things a pretty even playing field for everybody, the WOD was a 7 minute AMRAP of burpee box jump overs.  Not just burpees.  Not just box jumps.  Not even just box jump overs.  No, it had to be ALL OF THOSE THINGS TOGETHER.  For SEVEN minutes.  Basically, hell.  The longest 7 minutes of my life.

I did 54.  It was 54 too many.

(If you were wondering, the winner did 82.)

P.S. Spoiler alert: I also worked on my upper body progression for my second session this week, and it looks like my ring dip strength has made tremendous progress.  Only 1 more week of work and then I will re-test my official numbers.  Not sure if I will meet my 5 unbroken pull-up goal or not, but I’m pretty sure I will crush the ring dips! :)

Last thing, for funsies: I took an updated “family photo” of my beloved speeds.

I’m really pleased with the last 3 months of progress on my collection (and 3 months before that, I only had 5 pairs!).   I had to sell a number of things to fund these purchases, plus I found some great deals and some great trades.  I still have a couple left to capture (definitely ray in a size up and seaside dot) so this isn’t a finished set, but I’m really happy with my collection right now.  I just want to, like, hug them.

HI! Nice collection of speeds there! I love your printed florals and the surge ones the best. I’m slowly building up my CRBs and Vinyasas too. Do you think collecting LLM stuff qualifies as a real hobby? :D

I think I’m a bit biased to answer that question. :) Speeds are really the only thing I have a legitimate collection of. Everything else I have, like, 4 or less, even CRBs/WUC/etc. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, lol.
