The fit issues with the new speed shorts looks like it’s actually–at least in part–an inconsistency/QC issue. Thanks to a friend for providing these photos of two pipe dream speeds she purchased. Both pairs are the same size, but one came from an online order, the other was purchased in store:

I had the same experience with the sizing of the blue tropic speed shorts… one store I tried 2 pairs of my usual size 6, and they fit small :( Then, the following day I tried on the same shorts, in my usual size 6, and this time they fit me perfectly so I took them home with me :)
