What I Wore: Too Hot for Not-Shorts

July 27, 2014 / 6 Comments

I kept telling myself this week “hey maybe today I can wear crops!” And then I would look at the weather and NOPE.  Shorts it is then.  Forever.  Or at least until fall.  Which is basically forever.

Kind of a lot of color going on here, but I like it.  Haters gonna hate.  This was the maiden voyage of the new-to-me sea check speeds I got on a trade.  My first pair of plaids!  I worked on strict press and push press in sets of 3.  I’ve been liking having a heavy, lifting-only workout at least once a week.  Although I know it’s good for me to stay on top of my cardiovascular capacity, lifting is way more my thing.

Milky ways were my first pair of speeds (along with another pair) and they’re still some of my favorites.  We’ve been doing lots of WODs with 800M runs and every time I see it on the board I get Very Unhappy.  This one was 3 rounds of 800M runs and 21 power cleans.  I was already ultra grumpy, so this WOD made me want turn right back around and walk out, but I made myself push through it and, as you might expect, felt better afterward.

I love the little peek of orange (pizazz) here.  I did not love my 1000M row time.  The rest of the WOD was kettlebell swings and burpees–pretty much a cardiofest, which is always hard for me.

I can’t decide if I actually like this combo or if it’s just too many shades of pink/purple.  Jury is out.  I wore this for a 3-person team WOD of rowing, box jump overs, thrusters, and toes to bar.  It was like 95 degrees out, the hottest day of the week.  I realize that’s not hot to many of you, but it is here, so there.

No CrossFit today, but I went for a quick 2.5 mile loop with doggies and these arguably cheesy pics are the result.  I recently discovered this trail and I like it because even on a weekend, there are very few people out on it.  It’s an easy trail, too, which is good for rest days!  Also good for rest days: laying about and watching the last day of the CrossFit Games. ;)

We’re in Japan and it’s HOT here too now. My 7 miler yesterday was ungodly awful. 88* (real feel 97) by 0600. I grew up in NC, and lived on Guam for 3 years and nowhere so far has compared to the brutal heat and humidity here!

My trainer does weight/cardio circuits with me once a week. They’re brutal…I too need to work on my cardio lifting endurance, but in the 2 months I’ve worked with him I’ve seen great gains in strength and a small loss in body fat so it’s working!

I lived in NC for a while, too, so something worse than that in terms of humidity is pretty scary, lol! I had no idea it was so humid in Japan. That is brutal!

I love these posts. And I love the trail pics. I always find them somehow motivating.

Mini vent: I loved the medium heathered grey CRB… and my backpack ruined it. Grr. I didn’t know that could happen, and I had to find out on my fav CRB.

Wow, that sucks! I love mine too and I would be super-bummed if that happened… :(

Love all these outfits! And um…95 is pretty hot! It hasn’t gotten that hot here in the East, but of course we have the lovely humidity.

The real kicker is that since it’s (usually) so mild here, virtually no one has AC, including me! Thankfully it cools down a LOT at night (usually into the upper 50s) which helps keep the temp reasonable in the house most of the time.
