New Black Prisma Embossed Speed Shorts

December 15, 2014 / 4 Comments

Lululemon prisma embossed black speed shorts

Lululemon prisma embossed black speed shorts tag

New black speed shorts with prisma embossed print.  These look very festive–in the words of the source, they’re like a holiday version of the old nesting bird speeds.

If you compare these pics to the prisma WUP, you can pick out similarities in the pattern (e.g., look at the rosette underneath the right butt which is also smack in the middle of this pair of speeds).  There are also black prisma embossed passion crops, but the similarities are not as easy to see in the pattern placement of the stock pics.  So, I’m certain these are prisma even though the color code is 100% useless.

Note they are $58, a $4 jump from the regular price, probably because of the “fancy” embossing.  This picture is from a US store. [Thanks to Agent B for the pic]

Hmmm if speeds are jumping from $54 to $58 then I’m done. I have enough in my drawer as it is anyway. That’s just too much. It wasn’t that long ago that it didn’t matter what type of pattern or print (embossed, not embossed) and the price stayed the same. I think Lulu is priming the customer base to higher prices (the same with run and yoga crops) and one day BAM! no matter the print they will all be at the new higher price. Time to head over to Athleta – I already love there Chaturanga tights and crops.

I agree, I think permanent price increases are inevitable. On the flipside, Athleta is basically the only premium brand that’s not actually MORE expensive than lulu. That probably has to do with the fact that Gap Inc is much larger than lulu, so they are probably have the upper hand at optimizing their supply chain/profit margins. Lorna Jane, for example, charges $66 for a comparable pair of shorts. So, I woudn’t say lulu is leading the charge with expensive items, not by a long shot.

That said, it still pisses me and my bank account off. :P

Those are pretty but not at that price. I’m already finding myself slowing down on purchasing pants and crops because of the jump in price just because they are roll down or textured or print, etc. Like I have coco pique WUPs I bought last year for $82. If I want High Times Pants (which I prefer the fit now over WUPs) in the same print, it’s $98! I can’t justify the increase.
