  2. carrie - review of pot pants says

Okay friends, luckily #2 was not the case with the pot pants (aka the Mara Hoffman Botanica print leggings). They arrived today!

The fabric is a very slippery thinner type of material but very soft (82% nylon, 18% spandex). They would be good for hot activities (yoga, hot gyms) but are not super compressive (I wouldn’t wear them running). They are white on the inside but the colors held nicely when stretched. The white squares were slightly sheer when I looked really hard but the pattern is very busy so the sheerness was not noticeable. Speaking of the pattern – holy cuteness! I love the design just as much in person!

All that being said, I had a tough time with the fit. I am a 4/6 in lulu but I usually order a medium in most brands (small in alala & the upside) because my torso is very very long and my waist is much higher in relation to my hips than most people. As a result, I get muffin top easily from the waist band of size smalls (I prefer slight looseness around knees/thighs to muffin top). I got a medium in these. Welp… it turns out they are very low rise and thus gave me a delightfully decadent muffin shape AND they were also too big on me everywhere else. There were wrinkles in front of my pelvic bone, under by bum and behind my knees. So if you do not have a long torso, I would say take the smaller of your sizes (or maybe size down???). Needless to say, I am returning them. They just looked dumb on me cause they didn’t fit well at all. Bummer!! I feel like on a normal-torsoed person they would be great. Note that the waistband was pretty wide and soft – I think it would be quite comfy and flattering on someone for whom the low rise wasn’t an issue.

Bonus review: I also ordered the Strut-This grayson leggings since I liked their understated but still interesting vibe (and had a revolve store credit!). Hallelujah for us long torso peeps! They are divine. They are more of a luon, cottony fabric. and the very high waist is so comfortable. They are not sheer and very cute for casual wear or yoga (probably a bit warm for cardio unless you have a cold gym). Love them – keeping! Oh, and I got these in a M too and they fit very well.

Thanks Carrie for the awesome review! Was looking forward to it to make up my mind on sizes. Bummer that pot pants didn’t fit, but I’m sure something better is waiting for you :)

Strut-this leggings come in one size fits all according to their web-site. However, Revolve sell them as S, M, L etc. And some sizes are sold out. I wonder why? :)

Hey, re the strut this leggings, FYI: I contacted the company directly & just got a reply:

“So for our site, we are a ³one size fits
most², fitting comfortably from a 0-8. The fabric will stretch and mold to
your body. As for revolve, we did a special cutting for them with sizes.
If you fit between the 0-8, you should fit our one size, but totally your
          call.”

Weird, eh? Hope that helps SOME of the mystery. BUT why would they go to the trouble of cutting sizes to sell on a website and not their own? And WHY do they only go up to a size 8?!? Why not do at least a S M L size run? I understand that they are saying the fabric is stretchy but it seems pretty damned biased of them to cut out a portion of the population to limiting thier sizes to the upper ends of a size M.
I ain’t a business person. Sorry to vent.
Just trying to clear up the sizing mystery, y’all.

Thank you for the update, Carrie… It’s really weird, and I totally agree with your vent… By the way, all the Strut-this stuff has dissappeared from Revolve????

really???? hmmm…. this is all very weird and mysterious. they are all gone?? i wonder if there is something wrong with them – yikes! also… thank you for asking the company about sizes, sara. that is super annoying IMO. i hate one size fits “most” (or “all” because they just don’t. even if in theory the stretch makes them fit a 0 and an 8 (which i HIGHLY doubt), they would clearly fit those people differently in terms of compression, comfort, etc., which means different people are essentially getting a different product depending on their body type. very lame.

I totally agree on this!! Fit matters SO much in activewear, I think it’s nuts that something would be “one size”. But, I’m sure it’s much cheaper to only have to cut one size, i.e., better for the bottom line. :

Lara, no worries! I’m a ditz these days. Too many real problems.
So, WTH with Strut-this strutting off the Revolve website! Did all their inventory sell overnight??? Although I really liked those leggings, (and the price point was great), this company is giving me the ass. “one size fits most”? Sorry, but I’m too old for this. Carrie, I hope your’s do work out for you :) Thanks for your input & listening!

i wonder what their “one size” is closest to of the revolve sizes. the fabric is not THAT stretchy. in fact, the leggings don’t stand out to me as being any more stretchy than any others. i mean, come on. they are leggings – of course they mold to the body. (eye roll).

hey Carrie, thanks for your review! sounds like the brand runs a little small (by both your review and the sizing guide on the site)….or maybe not? i’m a 6 (mostly) in LLL, approx. 125lbs (carrie weight in legs/butt ;) 5’5″, with a slightly long torso so think may bite on it in a size M. not looking for more luon-like fabric but do like those graphics :) thanks again!

regarding your size… yeah i am 5’7″, 130 lbs and most often a 6 at lulu. so i think a M would be good for you too. i hope they restock!!!!

Thank you for your prompt report!!! Obviously many of us are grateful. :) The rise wouldn’t be an issue since I’m short, so I’m wondering if I’d be able to make the XS work or if they’d be too big. If I find them with free shipping/free returns, though, maybe I’ll just give ’em a try anyway.

        everyone is very welcome!

my guess is they would fit like the XS alala captain tights. alala M is too big on me (wrinkling everywhere just like these) and the alala S is very comfy and not tight at all (but fine and doesn’t slide down or anything – the S is what i get).

these are slippery material like alala.

Soooo I ended up ordering ye olde pot pants myself. I got them from Zappos so I got overnight shipping, haha. Impatient. Anyway, WOW you weren’t kidding, they are LOOOOW rise!! Definitely lower than anything else I have. The fit is fine otherwise, though not quite as spot on as some of my other pairs. Overall, I think they’re overpriced (no question), but damn are they cute. I have a photo shoot in mind to use them for, so now I have to decide whether it’s worth keeping them for that… Blog problems. D:
