Every year, I like to look back on my purchases and pick out a few that really stand out as my best buys. Since my purchases this year were pretty limited, the list isn’t very long this year, but there were still a handful of items that rose to the occasion. Here are the 5 things I loved the most in 2019.
My top pick: Tracksmith strata tee
Tracksmith’s tops have consistently become my favorites for running. I like to wear this UV-protective tee on long, high-elevation runs to give my shoulders extra protection from the strong sun. The lightweight, breezy fabric feels good to wear even in warm weather and the fit is flattering too. The white stripe across the chest is a little sheer, but it hits where my sports bra covers anyway, so this isn’t a concern for me. The only other downside is that it is wrinkle-prone. I keep mine on a hanger for that reason. It’s pricey and Tracksmith basically never does sales, but for me it’s been worth every penny. More colors, please!
Note that Tracksmith does run just a little bit small, so I recommend a size up if you’re between sizes. I’m wearing size XS.
Honorable mentions
Tracksmith horizon tank
Once again, Tracksmith nails it with a super-solid running staple. While I love my merino harrier tanks, this one brings a different fit and fabric to the table. It’s form-fitted enough to be flattering, but relaxed enough that it doesn’t ride up while I run. The length is a little bit shorter so it doesn’t bunch or get in the way, either. Overall, it just feels so good to run in. It’s one of the first tops I reach for after I do my activewear laundry…after my strata tee. Once again, I got this in XS and find it runs about half a size small.
Athleta running gloves
These were a recent purchase, but they’re so gorgeous! The reflective detail adds just a touch of visibility when you need it, they fit my small hands well, and the silicone grips keeps me from dropping my phone. Plus, they’re on sale. I also bought the grey heather for good measure.
Coyuchi cloud loom towels
An honorable mention outside of activewear: I haven’t upgraded my bathroom towels in ages, and now I wish I’d done it sooner. These towels are pricey, but I love them. Since towels are something I use every day, it’s been so great to have a set that really feel great. If you’re a fan of plush, fluffy towels, you’ll love these.
A tip I recently learned: to keep your towels (any brand!) maximally soft, Coyuchi recommends washing in cold water and drying on low heat.
The Citizenry baya lumbar pillow
One more home purchase to highlight… I keep most of my home decor palette pretty subdued, but this pillow packs just the right amount of color punch. Living in Arizona, I love the nod to the motifs of the Southwest. I originally bought this for my bed, but I ended up loving it for my living room couch as the perfect addition to offset my seat depth. Plus, opting for this one extra-large pillow saves me the angst of having to choose exactly the right array of throw pillows. I absolutely love The Citizenry and this pillow is the perfect focal point in my living space.
