What to Buy During Alala’s Black Friday Sale

November 23, 2016 / 17 Comments

Black Friday sales have already started!  Alala’s Black Friday sale has been one of my favorites for a couple of years.  I always end up with a pretty hefty haul, and this year won’t be any different.  Over the seasons, I’ve tried out a ton of Alala styles, so I’m breaking it down with a quick-and-dirty guide to what I’m loving the most right now and why.  You can get up to 40% off this long weekend (more details below!), which means some seriously killer deals.

Thanks to Alala for their continued support by sponsoring this post.  As always, all opinions are my own.

New season picks

This season, the tops and outerwear categories came in especially strong.  Out of all the tops and outerwear I got this season, I can’t think of a single one I didn’t like.  Still, I had to narrow it down somehow, so here’s what rose to the top.

City puffer

What I love: warmer than any of my other puffers.  Lots of details to love, like the inner chest pocket and hood drawstrings.  The silver color is unique but still goes with everything I own.  At 30% off (or 40%!), it’s an excellent buy.
Best for: girls who are cold all the time.  The heavy weight means it’s best suited for colder climates.

Liquid captain tights

What I love: the opaque, medium-compression fabric is good for just about any activity.  Liquid finish won’t crack or peel off.
Best for: looking cool in a sleek, on-trend fabric.  Leg-elongating fit is magic for us shorties.  Great for those who need active gear that multitasks between workouts.

Tranquility tunic

What I love: a flowy, draped look with silky soft fabric and a sassy mesh cut-out.  Perfect 3/4 sleeves and just the right amount of looseness through the body.
Best for:
when you need a bum-covering option.  I found the proportions to work extremely well for my petite frame; shorties rejoice!

Run crew

What I love: winter white is an unusual yet totally seasonally appropriate shade.  Super-soft fabric feels great to wear.
Best for: light to medium warmth for the season.  Wear it for hikes, winter sport layering, outdoor runs, or chilly gyms.

Pyramid bra

What I love: formerly known as the in a snap bra, this little number is as comfortable as it is stylish.  Top mesh detail offers some modesty while still being breathable. (Also comes in bolt stripe.)
Best for: light to medium support up to a C cup or small D.  I wear a 30D and get medium support from the XS.

Bond vest

What I love: neoprene fabric always brings that something special.
Best for: warm-up or to-and-from layering that specializes in cool girl vibes.

Honorable mentions: if none of these strike your fancy, I also highly recommend the sherpa vest, crusade bra, storm poncho, and seamless LS.

If you’re looking for more detailed info on any of my picks (and many more), I’ve got it covered in my Alala review archives.

[ezcol_1half]Marble print workout leggings[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Cute printed leggings make you run faster[/ezcol_1half_end]

Classic favorites

Fast track pants

What I love: a perennial favorite that I come back to season after season.  A four-season pant that’s light enough to wear in the summer, but loose enough to layer with leggings underneath in the winter.  This sale is the perfect time to pick up this staple.
Best for: days when you don’t feel like skin-tight leggings.  I grab these for casual weekend wear and weightlifting sessions at the gym.

Electric stone captain tights

What I love: soft, supple fabric that still performs well in sweaty conditions.  Not see through in spite of the light color.  Gorgeous print. (Comes in another color scheme, too.)
Best for: like the liquid captains, these make an excellent all-around tight.

Sophisticate jacket

What I love: beautiful drape in luscious neoprene.  I wear mine at least once a week.
Best for: secretly wearing activewear to work.  The sleek silhouette is ideal for infusing a little class in your to-and-from layers.

I am surprised that the Sherpa Vest did not make the list. Is there anything that you don’t like about it?

I was definitely on the fence about including that one! While stylish, it isn’t as versatile or practical as the others on this list. I still like it and recommend it (after all, I spent like $200 on it and kept it!), but like I said, had to shorten the list somehow. :)

You are the best enabler :). I looove the look of the white run crew on you but worry about sizing (should probably size up to S) and getting it dirty so I took it out of my cart. If it makes to one of the flash sales, I will have to get it.

Yes, if it was much tighter it would be pretty clingy and revealing in white. It being just a hair loose is nice to keep it from showing everything underneath. I hope the black one works for you. :)

AA – This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for! Although now you’ve got me adding more things to my cart! I keep trying to trim my list down to $300, then I keep adding things until it’s $600 again! Lol, what to do?!
I’m pretty decided that I want to try the Run Crew LS in both white and black, and I’m decided that I want to try the mesh infinity scarf. But then I keep adding more – the Flyweight Hoodie, the Everyday Cardigan, the Tranquility Tunic, and the black Storm Poncho! Do you find the Storm Poncho to be very warm? Do you still wear your Everyday Cardigan often? Decisions!

    Thanks for the post!

Haha, I know the feeling! I kept adding things to mine but had to exercise some serious willpower to keep it at just 3 things. Gotta save some money for other Black Friday sales. :)

The storm poncho is one of the thickest pieces. The armholes are pretty open so it does let some heat out, but the fabric is quite heavy (it’s cotton, not a lightweight active fabric). And the fleecy inside is a nice touch! As for the everyday cardigan, I can’t really wear it in fall/winter. The sleeves are quite fitted so I can’t get them over more than a light tee. If you haven’t already decided, I hope that helps!!! :)

Thank you! I already had my eye on the tunic and I’ve added the run crew (in black because I’m too worried about the white getting dirty). A month or so ago, I got the flyweight hoodie tee in indigo… LOVED IT!

I have the old flyweight but haven’t tried the updated design. I’m glad you love yours! I have the charcoal one on the way so I hope I feel the same. :) Fingers crossed for your run crew too! I hope my white one stays clean for more than, like, one or two more wears, haha.

My Alala cart keeps getting fuller, because I can’t decide what I like best. I don’t need another jacket but I love the look of the black city puffer, and I keep clicking on it to admire, so I have a feeling I’ll cave!

Did you try the Exhale sweatshirt? Which do you prefer, the Alpine tee or the Charge 1/4 zip?

I haven’t tried the exhale sweatshirt, no. Since I’m pretty petite I suspect it would swallow me up! And I haven’t received the charge 1/4 zip yet to *really* tell you which is better, but I do like that the charge has fully covered sleeves, as compared with the pindot on the sleeves of the alpine. So, I expect I’ll like the charge better but can’t say for sure for a few more days! I hope that helps! Good luck keeping your cart under control, lol. :)

off topic but a few people (including me) had recommended may lindstrom beauty products on the beauty post. well, may is doing a promotion, where she gives you a free very large bottle of the clean dirt, which is an amazing decadent exfoliating wash, plus some special deluxe samples, with any order of $150 or more. anybody who wants to try her products, i can’t recommend them highly enough. their downside is that they are pricey, which is why it is very nice to purchase at a time when you can get such an excellent free gift with purchase.

Ohhhh thanks for the tip! I’m thinking of trying the problem solver and youth dew. It’d be great to be able to experiment with her other stuff without having to buy the full-sized products. :)

If I’m on the smaller side of a lulu 6, what size should I get in sweaty betty? I’m finally going to get the power 7/8 lavaprint tights!

I would lean toward the S. I wear a lulu 2 and the XS power leggings work for me.
