Boxing Day markdowns are soon upon us, which means a mad dash of cart-filling and hand-wringing. It’s hard to make rational decisions when you’re rushed and worried about something selling out, and we all know a good deal can often lure us into buying something we later realize we didn’t really want.
Here’s one way you can strategize to make the experience both more efficient and less stressful. Having a plan will also help save you from making regrettable purchases, which is especially relevant since markdowns are final sale.
Before markdowns go up online or you go to the store, take a few minutes to do this.
Go to the “view all” products page. (You could go section by section, but IMO this makes it easier to be thorough.)
Look down the page and pick out any goodies that you might want. Be sure to open up the page and check if your size is in stock.
Make a list or a spreadsheet and add each item you’re interested in. Note the color(s) you’re interested in.
Ask yourself: what is the most I would be willing to pay for this? It’s SO much easier to answer this question rationally before staring the markdown sticker in the face.
If your list gets to be very long and you know you can’t nearly buy as much as you’re writing, it might be worthwhile to prioritize it. Split your list into 2-3 tiers of higher and lower priority.
If budget is a concern, also make a note of the maximum amount you’re willing/able to spend in total. Then, you can work your way from the highest to lowest priority until you’ve hit your max.
When markdowns go up or you go to the store, have your list handy while you scan for items from your list that are marked down for no more than your max price.
Grab ’em, and you’re done!
It’s very important to stick to your list!! Impulse buys totally defeat the purpose of making the list in the first place. If you really think through things beforehand, then there’s a reason you didn’t put something there the first time.

Hi!! Merry Christmas!! Yes it’s all about Strategy. :) I did up my list last night, and realized I didn’t want as many items as I thought I did. Whew.
I was wondering if I should add the items to my cart, and just check out whatever’s available and on markdown.
That’s a good strategy if you only have a few wants. Nothing I wanted was marked down sadly and in general I thought the MDs were pretty disappointing. :( I was kinda tempted by the berry yum wheezy speeds but wanted to wait and see if they dropped the price and now they’re all gone in my size. Oh well, not too broken up about it, especially since I could probably buy them secondhand for the same price or maybe even less.
Yes, if there isn’t an immediate lusty impulse to grab the speeds, then well, nope. :D
I did get the inky floral jumbo inspire crops, since I missed out on the speed tights, and the wunder unders version fit me weird. This could be the One I marry after all.
