Are you just discovering the world of lululemon? Here’s a quick primer
Lululemon adds new products to the website once per week, which fans often call “upload”. Upload happens on Tuesday afternoons every week on the what’s new page. As for stores, they generally receive shipments of new product at least once per week and usually twice, typically on Mondays or Tuesdays, and again on Thursdays. This can vary from store to store or depending on the season. Stores don’t necessarily receive everything that you see on the website–sometimes they receive items earlier, later, or not at all compared to what’s available online.
The resale community for lululemon is very active. Lulu has collector status for many women, some of whom have literally hundreds of pieces. Because the brand is so popular, secondhand lululemon is in high demand. Everybody loves getting lulu for a little less than the price in stores. Items in good shape generally hold their resale value extremely well for clothing. My favorite place to buy and sell lululemon is Poshmark. I’ve scored some amazing deals there, plus I’ve been able to earn a lot of money back from items I no longer love or need. You can learn how to score great deals on Poshmark in this post. Or, if you’d rather sell, learn tips for successful sales here.
Lulu has a lively community of fans, and even a little bit of lingo. For example, “WMTM” or “MD” mean “we made too much” and “markdown”, which means it’s on sale! Some of this jargon comes from lulu themselves and their company culture: for example, they call their sales associates “educators” and their customer service helpline the “guest education centre”. You can find a full reference list of common terms in the glossary.
Lululemon uses a lot of different fabrics in their products, which all started with their signature fabrics: luon and luxtreme. Luon is a yoga fabric that feels cottony to the touch, while luxtreme is a friction-resistant, cooler-feeling fabric designed for running and other high-friction activities. I wrote a guide to lulu’s most popular fabrics you might like. In order to get the longest, best life out of your expensive gear, it’s best to wash all your lululemon in cold water and let it air dry. Wash all your activewear together (don’t mix it with things like towels), avoid the dryer, and don’t use fabric softeners. Read more about the care and keeping of your lululemon here.
Lululemon doesn’t call their markdowns “sales” and they never do coupon codes. Once a week (see upload times page for the time), items are added to the “we made too much” section, which is their sale section (lulu never calls something “on sale”, just “marked down”). Lulu sells 95% of their products at full price, so don’t assume that what you want will ever be marked down. Some areas are lucky enough to have lululemon outlet stores where items are sold at the deepest discounts. Lululemon doesn’t usually promote big sale events like most brands, instead they quietly move items to their discount section as the seasons roll by. Season-less items like solid black wunder under pants are never marked down.
