A few months back, I ordered Alala’s sophisticate jacket because the draped look and neoprene fabric had my name written all over it. It fit looser in the body than I expected, so I reluctantly sent it back. After that, I found myself second guessing the return. I looked back at the pics I had taken for the blog, which only confirmed my desire to re-buy. Luckily, I was able to snag it on sale at the beginning of the summer before it disappeared for the warmer months. I’m so glad I re-bought it because I’ve worn it about 3498 times since. It’s warmer than most of my knit cardigans, so for a cold-natured person like me it’s the perfect weight for over-air-conditioned restaurants, offices, or just chilly evenings outside. This re-purchase was definitely a success.
On that note, September is here and temperatures are already wavering. The nights are getting cooler and the 80-degree mark has already nearly disappeared from the weather forecasts. As much as I love my speed shorts, I’m looking forward to mixing my crops and pants into the rotation. And besides that, I’m also excited to freshen up the cool-weather side of my wardrobe with some new purchases. I’ve already gotten started picking up a few things from new brands, so look for reviews coming soon to the blog!
I love this outfit! I also have the sophisticate jacket (one of my faves) and the fast track pants. The latter developed a hole in the mesh, but
Alala replaced it for me. Their new version does not have the zipper sides and uses a sturdier mesh. I recently bought a bunch of summer stuff during the Labor Day sale. Can’t wait to receive it! I bought Lorna Jane’s black mesh slv excel limited edition shirt. It goes perfectly with the Alala clothing’s sleek and urban aesthetic. Take a look!
Glad to hear they replaced it for you, that’s nice to know if I have issues with anything in the future. I didn’t notice that the fast tracks are now sans zipper, thanks for pointing that out. They had mentioned to me that that would be happening (in the context that it would be easier to hem), but I’m actually glad I got them before the switch since I do like the accent and didn’t end up needing alterations after all. Another interesting change is that the cut bra now has slots for cups, which is great. Not sure about the other bra styles. I didn’t get anything during the Labor Day sale this year in favor of saving my pennies for new fall stuff, which is more my speed than the spring/summer collection. In fact I ordered a couple things this AM from their upload this week. Also, I couldn’t find the LJ top you mentioned, although that said, their XS tops don’t usually fit me, so it’s probably a moot point unfortunately.

Bummer. The yellow captain crops are very sheer, but the skort and swimsuit/scuba are good. I wanted to try cerise, but not after yours were sheer, too.
Ahhh boo. :( I was afraid that would be the case with the yellow since the color’s sooo light. I’m still considering ordering a second pair of cerise to see if there are batch differences.
yes the all summer sale was pretty awesome. i was pleasantly surprised that your AA15 discount worked on top of the sale prices too!!! anyways… this is an awesome outfit and I’m peeved that i did not get that jacket back when i could have. i wish these other brands had a better resale market so that i wouldn’t see things and like them but then come to find that they are just gone with the wind… sigh.
anyways, i adore your taste, so i am eagerly awaiting your upcoming reviews (although my sister and i are doing a “shopping fast” for three months starting on 9/15) so ill have to take notes and then hope to score some stuff in the post-christmas sales. or maybe you could do some reviews before the 15th and i can squeeze some stuff in!!! lol.
oh also, FYI for everyone. i was really interested in alala’s new neoprene draped jacket for fall. i ordered it from nordstrom first to see about size and awesomeness since shipping/returns are free. i really did not like it. the asymmetrical business looked like a mistake and unless it was snapped closed it really winged open in the back. anyways, maybe i can save someone else the trouble! or if you are considering it, get it from nordstrom instead of alala! they may even match AA’s discount code. i forgot to try.
update: looking at this year’s version of the jacket and yours i think they might actually be the same and i think the size might have been my issue. ha! well i guess i will try a smaller size from nordstrom :)

Haha no worries! Yup it is the same jacket. Mine does “wing” out a bit in the back, which is what initially put me off, but I don’t mind now. I actually like the asymmetry, though. Also, cool that you got Nords to do the discount for you, free ship/returns is always really nice. :)

I just realized I can use my Hautelook credit on Nordstrom Rack. I have some laying around that’s expiring in a couple weeks, maybe I’ll get one of the sweaters… Thanks for the reminder!!
I have an off topic question – a local store told me that tonight they’re doing a special sale event (on the DL) where all the stores from the area send sale stock to one location. Apparently it gets pretty crazy. Have you heard of events like this, and are they worth checking out?

Awesome that you got the jacket on sale! Gotta love when that happens. I’m jealous that it’s getting cooler for you. Was 93 yesterday here & 87 today. :-( I can’t wait to break out my cool weather clothes.
Yes and I grabbed it at the last minute too! It was a close call. :) I sleep with the windows open to cool the house (most houses here, including mine, don’t have AC), and it’s already dipping below 50 at night! Brrrrrr.
Living in a blast furnace of 107 the last 2 days :P I can’t even fathom putting on something other than speeds and a 105 it’s so hot. How I long for the days of Fall, cool, crop weather.
Oh lord! I remember that misery when I lived in VA/NC. Where I am now it’s literally never broken 100 degrees in all of recorded weather history. Quite the change. :)
I’m kinda feelin’ those pants- I’ve decided I’d like more ‘kick it’ style bottoms, with a bit more chill vibe to them.
I mean, full on Luon’s great and all, but I’m getting a little bored with spending so much time in ‘tight’.

Very true! That’s one thing I like about those pants. Sometimes I don’t want tights, but loose-fitting pants sometimes just look sloppy or lazy. Not so with these!
