This outfit today is probably one of my favorites that I’ve featured on the blog so far! Rich tones paired with brights almost always turns out beautifully. You can’t go wrong with classic, timeless designs like the swiftly and speeds. Ray speed shorts were my first speed short purchase ever, so they hold a special place in my heart for more than just the fact that they’re an amazing shade of electric yellow. I actually had to sell my original rays and buy a new pair in a size up. These run pretty small (about a half size) and are 2-way stretch, so I eventually squat my way out of my first pair. If you’re in between sizes, these are the perfect pair.
For fall, I like to layer a tank under fitted long sleeve tees like the swiftly, since it makes the outfit feel a little bit more put together, and it’s nice to have the layering option anyway. I’ve also been really loving heathered or lightly space dyed fabrics mixed with solids, because it adds just the right amount of contrasting texture to keep outfits from looking too blocky. If you’re print-shy, heathered fabrics are a fantastic alternative.
In my last outfit post, I said that after being pretty hit-or-miss with workouts, I wanted to get back to 4 workouts that week, and happily, that’s exactly what I accomplished. This week, I’m back to not working out much, but it’s on purpose this time! I have a CrossFit competition on Saturday, so I’m taking it easy this week. I’ve been doing CrossFit for over 2 years, but this competition is only my second ever–my first was actually this same competition last year.
Now for the scary part: I’m competing in the RX division! I’m small and slow (not a great combination in the CrossFit world, hah!), which makes me truly more of a scaled athlete, but the movement standards seem to imply that this competition just might play to my strengths. So I decided to run with the big dogs this time, and even if I end up placing poorly, I’m excited to get to compete with my stronger movements like pull-ups and handstand push-ups. There’s always great energy at competitions, and it’ll be so much fun to cheer on my friends, so I’m really looking forward to my weekend! I hope you have fun plans in store, too.

ooh good luck at your competition! I’m doing my first RX competition next week- and I am terrified!!! (But good for us for putting ourselves out there) :)

Thanks Allie, and good on you for taking the RX plunge! Let me know it goes for you!

Thank you so much Brooke!! :)

Love everything about this outfit. You look great (and comfortable.)
Good luck this weekend!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks! The competition will be a fun time no matter what, but even better if it goes well. :)
Gretchen Braun says
Good luck at the competitions! Can’t wait to hear how you do (and see what you wear). Love this outfit!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks Gretchen! It’s cold in the morning but gets pretty warm in the afternoon, so I’m glad I’ll have the excuse to wear two different outfits, hehe.

Super cute outfit! I love looking like a set of highlighters threw up on me (I got that comment one time and loved it) so this is right up my alley. Good luck on your competition! I’ve done 4 scaled competitions, never got the courage up to go RX so good for you! Definitely post on how it goes!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Haha, so true about the highlighters! I love my neutrals, but sometimes I like to go all in with the colors. :) I will definitely report back after the competition! There’s one workout I know I can’t complete (can’t do a 135# clean and jerk, not even close), but I figured I’d have more fun in the RX division, and that’s what it’s all about. :)

Love this outfit! The bright colours work so well together.
You look so strong and fit. I’m sure you will do great at the competition! Good luck!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Aw thanks Jasmine! I’m hoping it goes well too. :)

every time I see your hair, I think about getting mine cut like that. So cute. Love the yellow shorts with blue top.
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks! I’ve actually had my hair like this for probably 7 years–I really like having it shorter. It’s surprisingly hard to find a stylist who can do the layers and the shape right, though, so if you do take the plunge, watch out for that!

Good luck at the weekend!! You’re so disciplined and dedicated – I’m sure you’ll kill it! Can’t wait to hear how it goes :) PS did your Dragon pants arrive from #werkshop yet?? Mine are my faves (got told at xfit the other day that they were my “Guns ‘n Roses pants” – cracked me up!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thank you! I never really know what to expect at competitions so who knows! I actually just got my dragons in the mail today, they are amazing. They’re a bit darker in real life than the pics and I love it! My gym’s has this motto that goes “eat clean, train hard, breathe fire”, so I’m taking that kinda literally with these crops. ;) I’m wearing them for the competition this weekend–so stoked about it!
lakenmountainlover says
YAY!! Post pics!! And breathe FIRE, you Dragon ;)

I have the dragon pants too and get so many compliments. They will bring you good luck!

Good luck to you and the other girls who posted about their upcoming crossfit competitions! You all will do fantastic.
Love the entire outfit. This post, and your last post about packing, is making me want a few more pairs of speeds – the chevron, spring has sprung (both been on my list for a while now, may bite the bullet and spend the cash), and ray. Thanks for the sizing info.
And you look fantastic! The hard work in crossfit is paying off!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thank you Samantha! All 3 of those speeds you mentioned are my all-time favorites! Well, those plus flash jacquard. :) To me they’ve been totally worth it because I wear them so much, and I really really love them.

Good luck at your competition! I look forward to your post about that. I enjoyed last year’s. Love the outfit. I have that pigment swiftly and it’s my fave.
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks!! :) This year I haven’t gotten sick like I did last year, so things are already off to a better start…

These colors together look awesome. The swiftly fits you so much better than mine fit me. My CRB size is skin tight & next size up is a little baggy. I wish mine got like yours does. Good luck this weekend!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks!! I’m a bit on the small side for my top size, so that may be why I end up with that tad bit of extra room. I like that better than super-skin tight too.
Mel says
Good luck this weekend! Love love loving this outfit, too.
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks Mel!!! :)

You look great in this outfit. My swiftlies ride up, but yours looks like it fits perfectly. Good luck this weekend!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Actually, mine do ride up a little bit too when I’m working out (especially running). For that reason I only have a couple, but I like the way they look when they’re all the way down where they’re supposed to be. :)
angeline says
Good luck for this weekend! I think you are really inspiring :)
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Aw thank you, Angeline! It was a lot of fun. :)

Love that outfit combo! Copying ASAP

Thanks! Copy away. :)

I have been following your blog from the very beginning. You have a beautiful collection! I need to learn your selectivity, discipline, and taste :). I have had a similar hair cut for a long time but it has been almost impossible to find a hair dresser to get it right. I have so much hair, which makes it even more challenging.
Best of luck and have fun this weekend!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Aw thank you so much! I, too, have been through *so* many hairdressers who just don’t seem to be able to get the cut right. I even bring detailed photos of when it looked its best and sometimes that isn’t even enough! I finally found a lady a couple months ago who seems to “get it”, thankfully. :)

I saw mention of the Swiftlies riding up, but have you had problems with them ripping or getting little holes like reviews say? I need a winter baselayer for running and was thinking a Swiftly LS or the Athleta Fastest Track LS, but do you have any better recommendations?
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
I’ve only had a couple of swiftlies ever. One of them did unravel in one spot at the sleeve, but it wasn’t because of something I did, so lulu replaced it for me. They’re certainly on the delicate side, so you do need to be careful with them. I haven’t tried Athleta’s fastest track LS. I can’t think of any other really good lightweight long sleeves off the top of my head though, unfortunately. I wish I had something more helpful to say, but that’s all the info I can think of!
Samantha Simons says
Love this combo…kicking myself for passing on that swiftly.
You really are a stunner too! Good luck this weekend!

Thanks Samantha!!! :)
