I’m not usually much of a Nike girl, but when I saw these legendary lava tights in volt at a Nordstrom store, I couldn’t resist trying them on. A couple people have brought these up as being reminiscent of lululemon’s old unicorn tears pattern (Nike’s version is definitely more neon, though).
I am usually a lulu 2 and an XXS or XS in other brands. I grabbed these in XS. They fit me well, and I think this size would also be a good fit for a lulu 4. I have to say, I was immediately impressed with the fabric. They were lusciously soft and thick. The colors are vibrant, and despite the bright, light-ish colors, they were 100% opaque on me (hooray!!!).
The angled seam in the back is a little bit of a different spin on the usual legging silhouette. The length pooled at the ankles a bit, of course, since I’m only 5’3″, but they aren’t as long as lulu’s wunder unders and the extra length didn’t bother me.
The pattern placement on all the pairs looked the same, which must be some pattern-cutting trick Nike has up their sleeve. This means no pattern angst or cherry-picking is required. What you see is what you get. Since my wardrobe is pretty brights-heavy, I think these would be pretty easy for me to match, despite all the colors going on here.
There’s a small slit pocket on the inside of the waistband for your stashing needs.
These are a nylon/spandex blend. They had a cottony feel, somewhere between lulu’s luon and rulu, not the slick finish like most running fabrics. These would be a great weight for colder workouts. I have no idea whether these would suit runners (there is no waistband drawstring), but I could see these working well for most workouts. From my brief try-on, they seemed to stay in place well.
Of course, the major buzzkill with these is the steep $130 price tag. That said, if I had the budget, I might’ve considered buying them. The fabric was awesome and they are so unique and fun. It can be hard to find nice prints like this that also have rock-solid, soft fabric. For those who aren’t completely put off by the price, I recommend checking these out.
You can find the legendary lavas online via Nordstrom and Nike.

These look awesome on you. At the risk of sounding creepy stalkerish, they make your butt look great. I don’t do brights like these now but I would buy these for my 20 year-old hardbody daughter in a heartbeat. If these come on sale, pounce!

Haha, you’re excused of an occasional creeper comment. :) I’ll be watching these for a sale too, I can’t imagine too many people are stoked about paying $130 for a pair of Nikes.

Gorgeous! Prefer these to Unicorn Tears which have some strange phallic thing going on.

Haha very true. I do like the colors UT incorporates though.

I tried on the Nike tights at Nordstrom today and unfortunately found them not fully opaque. I take an 8 in LLL bottoms and tried these on in a M. I had on royal blue underwear and in a medium bend could easily see them – particularly on one side that had more white in the pattern than the other side. But the fabric is soft and comfortable. Obviously I could wear a nude underwear with this instead of royal blue, but I’d rather not have to worry about that so try to only buy tights where underwear color doesn’t matter :)

Interesting, thanks for chiming in. Since I’m on the smaller side of XS, that might’ve been why there were opaque on me. I agree though, I never like to think about my undies when deciding what to wear, but I confess I do it for the occasional very special pair, lol.

Those pants look super cute on you. But $130? Nooo thank you!
I bought a pair or Nike legendary crops in solid black a few years ago, and ended up giving them away. I have a kind of a bubble butt, and was between sizes in the waist. They gaped in the back during squats, and I had to keep pulling them up. Due to that, I’m weary of the Legend tights/crops now. Too bad, these are cute!
Agent Athletica says
Yeah, that would be super annoying! I’m not sure if the price is higher on these just because of the print, or because the fabric is super-extra nice. I hope the latter.
