Lululemon’s textured wunder under tights are some of my favorite pants, ever. They’re a winter staple in my closet that I wear and buy over and over. These variegated knits are my 4th pair of textured, full-length wunders currently gracing my closet. They’re the perfect pair of crossover active tights: all the flattering qualities of active tights while still looking like normal leggings.
Variegated knit is like a teeny tiny herringbone that looks like a sweater. The knit is soft and has a slight sweater-like texture. The pattern is actually part of the knit itself, not the image of a knit printed on.
The variegated knit is a slightly tighter knit than my other pairs of textured wunder unders, but I still bought my normal lululemon size (2). They have a nice snug fit to them that keeps everything in place without being constricting. The rise is extra high, reaching up to my belly button. Since there’s no top seam on the waistband, the band never digs into my belly. The version I’m wearing is the full 28″ length, so there’s lots of extra scrunch at the bottom on my 5’3″ frame.
The textured fabrics like this variegated knit are much thicker than regular, solid-colored luon. For one thing, this means they’re warmer. These are great winter tights, which is why I love them, but you’ll definitely want to put them away in the summer. The thick fabric also means they’re not sheer at all no matter how much you bend. Since they’re so thick, they also hide panty lines, so you don’t need to wear seamless underwear.
Textured wunder unders are best for low or medium impact activities like yoga, studio classes, HIIT, or general strength training at the gym. In my experience, the knit does eventually pill at my inner thighs, but this typically doesn’t happen until after many washes and wears. That said, high-friction activities like running will accelerate that process, so I recommend avoiding those types of workouts. Since the style doesn’t look ultra-athletic, I love wearing this style with tunic-length sweaters or dresses. They’re some of the best truly double-duty leggings I own.
In my opinion, textured tights are one of the best buys you can find at lululemon. I’ll keep coming back to them year after year.

Sometimes you gotta take a break from a good thing–just makes it nicer when you inevitably come back to it. :D

Thanks for a great review. Although they look great, an item like this seems to have limited utility. They are certainly not an indoor item, yet don’t seem to be the right tight for running (as you said that would accelerate piling.) What cold weather outdoor activity do you think that they would be suited for?

same question!
i’ve never worked out in textured lulu bottoms.
i use them for casual use. maybe outdoor yoga when its chilly???

When I did CrossFit, I wore similar textured leggings almost every chance I got, because the gym was in a warehouse with limited heat. These days I wear them in my garage gym to lift weights or to aerial silks (also in a warehouse). I also wear them for hiking and lower-sweat yoga classes in the winter. Of course, if you only work out in fully heated environments, you might not get as much use out of them, but I do for sure!

They sound great. What exactly are they listed under on their web site? Full luon? How do you find the textured knit ones? Luxtreme? I don’t seem to find them.
Thanks

The link in this post leads directly to the page where they’re sold. The exact name on the site is “Wunder Under High-Rise Tight 28″” under the color “Luon Variegated Knit Black Heathered Black”. If you search for the color on the website, you can also find them that way. :)
