This outfit is another one that feels like classic lululemon to me: bright, feminine colors mixed with a subtle neutral pattern (here’s the other look that brings classic lulu to mind). While I love a good understated look, sometimes it’s fun to throw subtlety to the wind and pile brights on brights on brights!
I scored these heathered paris pink speed shorts just a few weeks ago for my stash. Paris is such a classic, bright, and beautiful shade of pink. This color is several years old, but I nabbed mine on Poshmark for a price I was happy with. By the way: if you’re looking for paris speeds, there are two varieties you should know about: microstripe and heathered. Both are 2-way stretch, but microstripe runs a little bigger than heathered. Heathered, which I’m wearing here, can be distinguished by the contrast seams at the vent. Microstripe doesn’t have the vent stitching contrast, plus the shorts have a very subtle horizontal stripe pattern. Classic lulu at its best!

Love! I have this surge CRB and never wear it! I think it was one of the first CRBs I ever bought. Looks great with paris pink. I also have that hat in the same color. Really love the print.

Yeah, I don’t wear surge as often as I used to because it can be hard to find something to pair it with. I like it with black swan/grape, too.

This is how I dress most of the fall until it gets too cold- lots of layers up top and shorts on bottom! I love how you matched up the bright colors in the hat with your clothes. Really cute! I love this jacket as well..need to pick one up for fall running :) Do you have a favorite style for outer layers?
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
I don’t really have a favorite outer layer, though I tend to go with tighter-fitting pieces for actual workouts since they stay out of the way. I have a couple that I like but I need more. I love lulu’s rulu 1/2 zips over a tank in the fall/winter.

I love that Forme! I don’t remember that one coming out… I have the mini check pique forme, which I adore, but that’s my only one. BTW, my Alala draped jacket arrived (from Nordstrom!) and it is just darling but the sleeves are SO TIGHT. Not tight in the upper arms where sleeves are sometimes tight… like so tight I had trouble getting my hand past the shoulder into the actual sleeve. It was way harder than getting on an actual wetsuit. I think they must have changed that about the sleeves this year – cause they look very tight on the model online too but not at all in your pictures (i.e., in your pics the sleeves are slim fitting like your forme jacket but not crazy suction tight). Anyways, it was such a bummer cause like I said the rest of the jacket was so cute, but even after about 30 seconds with the sleeves on (I did work them on slowly but surely), I felt my circulation cutting off. Seriously… cutting off with tingles. Like my mother-in-laws compression socks. What in the world!? Anyways… a super bummer. But… (drumroll) my blanket jacket is supposed to arrive today so hopefully I’ll love it and my prior rule that I “can only keep one” will be very easy to uphold :)
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Yeah, Alala’s sleeves do tend to be cut small. For me this is great because even my “built” arms from lifting are really small! So, not surprised to hear it was a problem in your size down. Oh well! How is the blanket jacket?!?!
carrie says
Yes, but their sizing is also just inconsisent. It’s my only complaint against them. the one that I could not get the sleeves on was my TTS… I had previously ordered a size up cause it looked like a small fitted jacket and I err on the side of liking looser things (which ironically is why I like alala… they have the loose, drapey look totally mastered). Maybe the neoprene fabric was an issue? Or maybe they just haven’t gotten down the art of consistent sizing yet. I have many of their stuff in size smalls, but also a few mediums that fit like the smalls… e.g., I have a small in the roll down sweats and a medium in the track pants and they both fit the same. I also have a medium the cut bra too even though I’m a size 4/6 on top and an A cup. Anyways, whatever, at least it was from nordstrom so it was easy to return!
AND it made the decision to keep the blanket jacket easy. It is awesome! I absolutely love it. I got a small in it too (my TTS) and it fits great – loose and drapey like the typical alala fit, with slim fitting (but not tight) arms. The loose knit mesh stuff on the bottom hem and cuffs is darling. With your 15% discount and the added fact that alala doesn’t add tax (although I’m not sure why not??), it was about $60 off the normal price at carbon38. So i feel even better about it! For a very small person it’s possible it would be a bit overwhelming because it is loose and oversized and pretty long, but maybe the XS is a lot better. I’m not sure. I definitely think it’s worth giving a try!

that first paragraph of my comment sounds snarky, huh? sorry! i love alala. i also love your blog, and i love discussing the minutiae of various styles :)
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
No worries, I didn’t read it as snarky, and of course I always like getting into the nitty gritty of fit too. :) I do think that the neoprene doesn’t give as much as some of the other fabrics, so that may be part of the issue with sleeve tightness. I got my fractal tee and the sleeves run about the same as the sophisticate, but the fabric is stretchier. Thanks for the input on the blanket jacket! I will definitely have to give it a try at some point. Usually the XS is scaled nicely for petite folk like myself, so I’ll hope for the best. I’ve been gravitating toward more oversized looks lately anyway. :)

Aw I wish Forme jackets would come back!! I don’t care about Define
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
I like both for different reasons, so I suppose I’m happy either way. :)

Great outfit. Like the other comments, love the forme jacket in this outfit. I have 5 (yikes) in various colors, but they are so cute and fit so well. Love it so much more than the define. Love the speeds too.
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Thanks! :) I only have 2 formes and 1 define!! I wear them all the time, but I haven’t found any more colors that I love enough to add.
guest says
Do you find these speeds shorter? Short like Shell Pink, Seaside Dot? Or closer to say Spring Has Sprung length? I really like the bit longer length of the newer speeds so much, so i’m hesitant to buy older speeds after the shell pink/seaside dot experience.
I wish I could wear Formes or Defines. They are just way too short on me. They come to mid-belly area and look ridiculous. It’d be nice to have a light fitted *jacket* for wearing daily when it’s initially chilly but then warms up. DSJ, Scuba’s are too heavy for that.
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Off the top of my head, I wanna say they’re the same length as a pair like spring has sprung. They didn’t strike me as especially short (like some of my other pairs) but I can do a direct comparison when I am home later today if you’d like.
Also, yeah, the forme/define is just the right length on me and I’m pretty short, so I can definitely see how they’d be an awkward length if you’re taller.

That’d be great! Thanks! I’d love a comparison!
Suzanne | Agent Athletica says
Ack I just realized I haven’t done this yet! Later today, I promise. :)

I hope these photos go through. I took one of the inner inseam and one of the outer leg. They’re so close that it’s hard to say if the difference is actually real or just the way I’m holding them. Basically, they’re reeeeally close. Also sorry for the awful lighting!
